My Choices stories

At My Choices we believe in the value, beauty and strength of every woman, and that the greatest gift a father can give his children is to love their mother. We believe in working with families to find peaceful solutions. We believe in listening to the husband's story, and not just the wife's. We believe that together  we can change society from the inside out, starting with families.

These stories show the variety of cases My Choices PeaceMakers and Counselors handle. You will read stories of struggle for freedom, of legal battles, of controlling gender norms, but most of all of transformation. It is our hope that these stories not only bring awareness and understanding for the Indian reality, but most of all that they bring inspiration to everyone who reads them. Each person in these stories has chosen to tell their story to the world to send one resounding message: CHANGE IS POSSIBLE!

Here for you are seven stories. We have chosen to name our most popular unique line of products after these stories. My Choices sells seven types of scarves, each named after one of our clients. When you wear them, we hope you carry a sense of pride that just as our unique silks adorn your neck; so to are the lives of these clients adorned by success and peace.

As soon as Tayyaba moved from Hyderabad to Aslam’s village in Maharashtra her in laws began abusing her. They were possessive of Aslam, and treated her like a laborer. She was forced to work long hours in outdoor labour, coming home only late at night. Because she was working outside the house (even thought it was at their demand), she was accused by her in laws of having an affair with another man. Aslam was agitated by all the hate directed towards Tayyaba, and would beat her often out of anger. Click here to read more...
